The Fallen Woman

This is a small but really excellent exhibition at the Foundling Museum in Bloomsbury looking at the ‘fallen woman’ in Victorian art and literature, and more broadly the hypocrisy and double standards around female sexuality. The link to the Museum is that it was the children of these women who were admitted to the Foundling Hospital. The exhibition ends on 3 January.

And when you are drinking a cup of tea in the Museum’s café afterwards, you can see Superman was a Foundling, a witty graphic/mural on the café walls created by Lemn Sissay and listing famous characters from fiction who were fostered, adopted or orphaned.
